You might think it strange that I quote a phrase from the first of the ten commandments, yet even as a young girl, I took that first commandment to mean that one should not idolize other human beings. In this essay, I want to talk about two phenomena that lie at the heart of why George Santos was accepted and elected — without much scrutiny.
