Children are already participating in DIY spaces through the digital world and this can be brought into the learning sphere to change the way education functions.

Takeaway

DIY and Maker culture provides skills for self-direction and creativity which is important in children being in charge of their own education.

Real-world example

I think nowadays youtube provides such an incredible entry point into the world of making. There is a youtube video on every single topic and anytime someone is interested in creating something new or trying a new skill Youtube provides that outlet for self-direction and learning.

Questions

How young can a kid be to participate in DIY/maker culture? Does Crafting or finger-painting count?
