EDP Acceleration Program for energy startups comes to Madrid

As a first activity in the Tetuan Valley — Beta-i partnership, we are organizing the EDP Acceleration Program in Spain.

Energias de Portugal (EDP) is a utility company with operations in Europe, North America and South America. They are the largest generator, distributor and supplier of electricity in Portugal and have significant operations in electricity and gas in Spain.

For quite some time now they have been working on innovative technologies in the energy industry. The EDP Acceleration Program is an opportunity for startups in the energy sector to get their prototype off the ground and test their pilot with one of the biggest corporate players in the industry. They have already run an EDP Starter in Portugal in 2016.

Some of the startups they have worked with in the past are:

  • Prodrone: develops integrated UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) inspection solutions comprising of autonomous flight enabled platforms and cloud based images and data management systems.
  • Thermosite: an Internet platform specialized in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. The software is based on economy and energy efficiency criteria.
  • Delfos: an intelligent maintenance platform that uses machine learning powered by IBM Watson, and technical knowledge, to transform the already available data from the wind turbine into useful information.

You can check out a complete list of the startups that went through their program in the past here.

Tetuan Valley will act as the partner for the program in Spain, helping with the organization of the events and scouting startups for the program. In a joint effort with Beta-i we have already found 90 startups that will be contacted for the program.

During this program the participating startups will get coaching sessions with industry expert mentors, workshops, a quality networking and much more. Participants will get a chance to test their prototype risk-free and run fast experiments with the support of one of the main players in the European energy sector.

The EDP Acceleration Program in Spain will be held at Campus Madrid on April-May 2017 and applications are open until 12th March. From 13th March to 5th April members from EDP, Beta-i and Tetuan Valley will be looking for up to 14 startups to integrate the accelerator. Apply here.
