How to Write a Killer Business Plan

1. Do your research

Don’t start writing until you have all the information you need:

  • Clear idea of your value proposition
  • Market research
  • Competition
  • User/Client base
  • Industry

If you don’t have a clear idea of what you are going to write, don’t lose anybody’s time. Research, research, research!

2: Give the reader a reason to read further

The Executive Summary is your opportunity to show off your product and motivate the reader to continue. What do you want from them? Why should they give it to you? Ignite their curiosity!

3. Have a clear description of the product or service

What do you offer exactly? What’s the core that defines your product?

Describe your Value Proposition and key features that give you that competitive edge. Add that touch of passion and you will have the perfect mixture between clarity and motivation that every investor loves.

4. Develop a market dimension

Here’s where you tell the reader how big the market is and how the future of your company will look like.

Who is your client? How do they look like? Where do they eat? What do they read? How many times do they use the bathroom?

These questions sound pretty invasive, but the better idea you have about your customer the better you know what their pains and desires are. Convince the reader that you know your customers better than their moms, and you will win yourself a fan.

5. Understand your competition

Talk about who’s out there solving the same problem you want to solve. Maybe they don’t have the same product, but if the need is big enough most likely people will be using other solutions and bypasses.

Make a SWOT Analysis to show why your product will wipe them off the market.

6. Outline your marketing plan

How are you going to steal those users and clients from your competitors? How are you going to convince the ones that are not already engaged?

A realistic marketing and sales plan will show the reader that you have the potential to make your dream happen.

7. Show them the money

What are your expected expenses and income for the next 2 years? When are you going to start making money? Write a credible down-to-earth financial plan that shows the reader that your plan is well grounded and you are not some featherbrained entrepreneur.

Perfect! Now that you have the perfect business plan, you are ready to apply for the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme!
