At the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) we share a passion to serve Veterans and Military Members. Labor Day gave us a chance to reflect on what we do. We can say it’s an honor to work with so many American heroes, their families and the greater support community. And we’re always looking for ways to improve.
While most Americans celebrate Labor Day with a day off, VLB never stops working for you. Our website is available 24/7. It’s filled with VLB program and service information along with applications, an events calendar and our Texas Veterans blogs. In addition, our digital assistant Maverick is standing by to help navigate our website and answer questions.
We love to hear from Veterans directly and the Veterans Call Center team is ready to help weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. It’s a joint effort between VLB and our sister agency, the Texas Veterans Commission. In fiscal year 2021, the call center responded to more than 30,000 callers with questions ranging from “how do I start the loan process” to “where can I get help starting a business or find a job?” Also, we’ve replied to thousands of Veterans’ emails wanting general or sometimes very specific information.
It’s a big state to cover, but VLB has six outreach coordinators living and working throughout Texas. They are often present at local Veteran or community events to talk about VLB programs and services and answer questions. If you’d like a VLB representative to attend your event or make a presentation — either live or virtually — there’s a speaker’s request form online.
This year, for example, we’re happy to be back at the Texas State Fair in the GO TEXAN Pavilion run by the Texas Department of Agriculture. If you attend the fair, be sure to stop by the VLB table and say hello. The Texas State Fair is just one example of the events that VLB representatives attend to spread awareness about our only-in-Texas programs and services.
We hope that you’ll take a moment to follow us on your favorite social media platform. You can find VLB updates along with other helpful resources and advice for Veterans on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
We started our Zoom@Noon webinars during the pandemic, but after more than a thousand people participated in a year’s time, we decided to keep it going. We begin by giving an overview of VLB and then open the virtual floor to questions. It’s easy to join our weekly Friday 30-minute VLB Zoom@Noon webinars by signing up on the events calendar. You can attend from home or the office.
This month’s newsletter survey will help gauge how many of our Veteran clients are using our services. We appreciate the many Veterans that trust VLB and use our services.
