TWC Job Fair on Nov. 4

One of the greatest needs for the approximately 25,000 Veterans who call Texas home after completing their military service is a job. As challenging as this process can be for some, the state of Texas offers many services to help these new Veterans as they transition back into civilian life.

The Texas Workforce Commission’s Veterans Leadership Program (TVLP) corrals Texas’ vast job resource and referral network to help Veterans. Their goal is to connect Veterans with the resources and tools they need to lead productive lives and enjoy the benefits of the society they volunteered to serve.

Some of the services provided include:

· Job search assistance and a translator service that matches military skills and experience to civilian occupations;

· Training focused on in-demand jobs;

· Resume writing assistance;

· Hard-to-Serve Veterans initiative;

· Veteran-specific job search portal in WorkInTexas.com;

· Texas Veterans Commission’s list of private employers the give Veterans employment preference.

The TVLP provides hands-on help throughout Texas. A Veterans Resource and Referral Specialist is assigned to each of the 28 workforce development areas. They work closely with Workforce Solutions office staff and the Texas Veterans Commission staff embedded in those offices. All Veterans Resource and Referral Specialists are Veterans themselves who have been through the process of finding work after their military service. This network of returning Veterans plays an integral role in addressing the needs of other returning Veterans, including finding gainful employment, training, medical, educational and other needs.

Additionally, the TVLP runs statewide “Hiring Red, White and You!” job fairs bringing employers and knowledgeable experts to a one-stop shop. This year’s 10th annual job fair will be held in 31 cities around Texas on Nov. 4. Veterans can learn more about signing up here: Hiring Red, White & You — Texas Workforce Commission.

For more information about the TVLP’s role and services, their newly released 2021 report is now available online: 2021 Report on the Transition from Military Service to Employment
