LISTEN TO HIS INTERVIEW

Born in 1924 in Buckholts, a small town between College Station and Temple, Seaman 2nd Class Kamenicky served as a Fire Control Man aboard the USS Phoenix for the duration of WWII.

Mr. Kamenicky survived the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service’s surprise military strike on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He went on to become an engineer for the Santa Fe railroad upon his return.

Mr. Kamenicky passed away in 2012 at age 87. Along with many other interviewed Veterans who are no longer with us, and we can still hear his story. This is one of the great things about the Voices of Veterans Oral History program: it preserves Texas Veterans’ history for future generations.
