Remembering our Medal of Honor Recipients

In honor of Patriot Day Sept. 11, we celebrated the latest Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt. Maj. Thomas “Patrick” Payne. Additionally, the VLB is remembering the lives of four native son Medal of Honor recipients — Richard A. Anderson, James L. Logan, Charles H. Roan, and Travis E. Watkins. Their extraordinary bravery, heroism, and courage led us to name four of our Texas State Veterans Homes after them.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

Richard A. Anderson, Charles H. Roan, and Travis E. Watkins all made the ultimate sacrifice and were killed saving the lives of others they served with.
