Last year, Texas Land Commissioner and VLB Chairman George P. Bush initiated the 100 for 100 campaign. The program is a special way to honor Texas State Veterans Homes residents celebrating their 100th birthday by ensuring they receive at least 100 birthday cards.

Since November 2019, the public has helped celebrate three Veterans’ centennial birthdays — Janice Bradley in McAllen, Lyndoll Hurley in Bonham and Joseph Broussard in Houston. Each Veteran received more than 1,000 birthday cards. They came from all over the country and even from overseas.
