The VLB Welcomes New Senior Deputy Director
On November 2, 2015 U.S. Army Colonel Matthew Elledge was appointed the new Senior Deputy Director of the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB). In his new role as Senior Deputy Director, Colonel Elledge will oversee eight Texas State Veterans Homes, four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries, three Loan Programs, a joint call service center, and the Voices of Veterans Oral History Program for Texas Veterans, military members and their families.
Colonel Elledge comes to the VLB from his three-year post as Garrison Commander at Fort Hood, in Killeen, Texas. As Garrison Commander, Colonel Elledge was responsible for the health and welfare of more than 370,000 soldiers, family members, retirees and civilians. Before serving as Garrison Commander, Colonel Elledge was a fellow at the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at Texas A&M University.
During the course of his career in the U.S. Army, Colonel Elledge deployed overseas to support Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operations Intrinsic Action and Iris Gold in Kuwait, and completed multiple tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Colonel Elledge has a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in military operations from the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies. His awards and decorations include the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge with Star, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and the Parachutist Badge and Ranger Tab.
“In my years of service to our nation I have had the honor and privilege to serve alongside and lead soldiers in combat. I can tell you that our servicemen and women have truly earned the title of Veteran, and deserve the very best our nation and state have to offer them for their service,” said Colonel Elledge. “Transitioning from military service can be daunting and the VLB is here, not only to provide benefits to Texas Veterans, but also to guide them to other Veterans programs and services. My leadership philosophy is simple: be seen, be heard and listen; do what’s right, and never quit. That’s what I plan to do while serving our Texas Veterans.”
The Texas Veterans Land Board is delighted to welcome this distinguished and experienced leader. For more information about the Texas Veterans Land Board please visit www.TexasVeterans.com or call 1–800–252-VETS (8387).
