Women Veterans Honored

The Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) salutes all those women who have served in our Armed Forces. Today is Women Veterans Day, designated to commemorate the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act signed in 1948 which allowed women to serve as regular members of the Armed Forces.

This year’s celebration is a special day for women Veterans, as the first female leader of one of the Armed Forces was sworn in on June 1, 2022. Admiral Linda L. Fagan is now the 27th Commandant of the Coast Guard. She is now responsible for all world-wide Coast Guard activities, along with 41,700 active-duty military; 7,800 reserve military part-time employees; 8,300 civilian full-time employees; and 31,000 civilian auxiliary volunteers.

This is historic and validating for those women who choose to serve. Psychologists have long known that women in high-stress occupations often suffer from “imposter syndrome”, where they don’t feel they truly belong in that role. One way to fight imposter syndrome is to see someone from your group, who looks like you, achieve a higher level of success. That groundbreaking success breeds more success. Women Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Guardsmen around the world are inspired by Admiral Fagan’s new role.

The VLB salutes all women Veterans and thanks you for your honorable service.

The VLB is happy to provide any needed help for these American heroes. The mission for the VLB is “to ensure that we offer the very best package of Veterans benefits in the country and those of us who work for the VLB strive to meet those goals every day. For more than 70 years, we have had the honor to serve Veterans, Military Members and their families in Texas, and we look forward to keeping that promise in the years to come.” Call 1–800–252–8387, email VLBinfo@glo.texas.gov, or visit vlb.texas.gov to see the different benefits available.
