BREEDER CHECKLIST & QUESTIONNAIRE 2024

BREEDER CHECKLIST & QUESTIONNAIRE 2024

  • Are you dependent solely on Facebook & Instagram to sell pups?

Popular Socials: FB, IG, YouTube, X, TikTok, Pinterest etc.

đź“Ś Breeders:

  • Do you have a Facebook business page?
  • Do you have a Website that clearly answers all questions and covers the services you provide with pricing? If not, you why?
  • Tired of buyers asking for 100 pictures just to go AWOL the second you send them the price?

Avoid the headache and save a lot of time by listing all info of available pups & studs along with pics & video on your website.

đź“Ś The importance of other platforms:

  • If Social media were to go away or FB/IG etc start to really crack down on puppy posts, what’s your backup plan?

After taking months off after Venom “Chunk” passed, combined with having our Website, FB & IG temporarily disabled: our post reach was shot. This all happened after a purple-haired 15 year old she/they/them called us “animal abusers” to het audience of over a million followers, sending the animal rights nut jobs into full attack-mode.

What saved us is having a newsletter of 25,000 Subscribers to send out while our posts only reach a handful of people. Events like this highlight the importance of building your brand on other platforms. In addition to just FB & IG, having a website and collecting emails from those who’ve requested to receive a monthly updates came in clutch.

Another advantage to branching out onto other platforms (if you’re not already) is that they each cater to a different audience. Your posts or personality may resonate with more people on Youtube vs TikTok or on Instagram over Facebook.

Try different outlets and see where you get the best response

There are breeders I’ve never heard of with 20K-100K+ followers absolutely killing it on Youtube. Just because I hadn’t heard of them doesn’t mean a thing, several young breeders have double or triple the amount of followers as us on Youtube. This isn’t shade, it’s props.

You have to respect the hustle especially from young entrepreneurs that are putting in the work to build their brands. These breeders found a platform that works well for them and found their audience. Personally, I love working with breeder’s that do the work. The ones that do, listen and take advice do very well.

Confirmation Shows & Events:

If Social Media isn’t your thing, there are in-person events, meet-ups, dog shows stack-offs & more.

Entering a “Stack-Off” and putting your dog in the mix (even if you don’t win) can generate interest and help build your stud, kennel or brand. A win over a Top dog or just holding your own against a top dog can put you on the map.

Campaigning a Champion or Grand Champion can build your name and brand fast as well.

đź“Ś Longevity:

Two of the least talked about but most important issues within the breed to address.

  • Are you focusing at all on longevity in your program? Have you incorporated dogs like Lucky Luciano, GrCh Chumper or Omega? These are all great examples of dogs with type and longevity (aged 12, 12 & 11)
  • I can understand wanting the “most extreme” dog, hell we’ve got a couple of them. But, if you’re inbreeding two dogs that pass away before the age of 4: you’re much more likely to end up with a dog that dies at a young age.
  • Venom “Chunk” passed before his 9th birthday and that was too early to me. So my question is if there are breeders focusing on longevity in their programs. And if so, how?
  • Are you building a solid foundation of great dogs or playing “follow the leader” and breeding the same dogs with issues over and over?

I see it almost daily in my feed — the pairing two dogs whose parents both passed away before the age of 3.5?

• Are you prepared to start completely over in 3–4 years?

Sadly, this will become a reality for many breeders. I know this, because I made this mistake 5+ years ago. Unfortunately, many breeders will arrive at this same realization over the next 2–3 years.

  • Have you taken steps to prepare for this if it were to happen? Or have you bred yourself into a corner with a single bloodline?

đź“Ś Rear assembly:

The rear acts as the “engine” powering a dog’s movement. There are too many long dogs (hotdogs) and dogs with poor rear assembly. High-rear has now become the “norm.”

We’re all about “Extreme” dogs. We’ve had extreme Studs & Bitches since 2016. But once type is set, it’s about balance. When we say “Extreme” we mean type. Extreme features set this breed apart from similar breeds, but the dog should still be balanced and proportional.

Extreme Vs Overdone

King Koopa’s an example of EXTREME. Borderline overdone. He may not be a show dog but, like Venom he’s turning out to be a phenomenal breeding tool. Koopa is 2X Venom, directly off one of the Top Producing Studs in breed history — this is a dog bred specifically to pass on Venom traits and he’s stamping everything he touches.

đź“Ś Setting Type:

Focus on type 1st: the breed should look the part.

  • Once type set, what is your next goal? What areas are you looking to clean up or improve?
  • What are you looking to achieve in your next breeding? Are the dogs that you’re producing better than the dogs behind them in the pedigree?
  • Does your pedigree get better going from right to left or left to right? 🤔

Another great dog for setting type is ABKC Pocket Champion HCB’s Homicide. “Homie” is linebred 2X GrCh Chumper and is now Sire to over 25+ ABKC Champions & 15+ Grand Champions.

AMERICAN BULLY BREED TYPE

What is Breed “Type?”

Breed type contains all of the characteristics that are ideal for any particular breed of dog. This can include appearance, structure, character, condition, temperament and movement among others.

The 5 KEY elements in the American Bully Breed:

  • Character
  • Silhouette
  • Head
  • Coat
  • Movement

Breed type is important for distinguishing one breed from other similar breeds and is essential for evaluating a dog against its own breed standard. Without type, a breed’s characteristics are lost.

Dogs lacking type do not possess the key characteristics of a breed and, therefore, are not likely to produce puppies that carry type (think breeders using a neighbor’s dog)

SATURATION/THE MARKET/THE ECONOMY

đź“Ś Saturation/The Market/Economy:

  • The market is down and the economy affects everyone. But quality will always sell. If you’re selling something that everyone else already has, why would someone pay a premium when it’s so readily available and cheap?

Playing “follow the leader” will never separate you from the pack.

STUD OWNERS

đź“Ś Stud Owners:

  • What are you doing to increase the value/demand for your services? Do you promote your Client’s litters?
  • Are you producing healthy litters with the rare heart murmur/elongated soft palate, hip & joint issue or litters full of them?
  • Have you produced an entire litter or multiple litters that had to be pet homed, given away or worse had to be put down at birth due to hip issues or hearts? If so, why are you still studding the dog?
  • Are you building your own line or brand or simply promoting another breeder?
  • Do you send your Clients lists for everything they need? From having a litter, instructions on taking quality pictures to promote your litter?

CLIENTS/CUSTOMERS

đź“Ś Clients:

  • Are you putting in the time and effort to promote your litter?

Many breeders are willing to go above and beyond to help their Clients sell their litters, but without clear pics or video our hands are tied.

If you’ve read this far, TikTok hasn’t fully rotted your brain and you might willing to put in the work required to succeed. Let us know what you’re looking to improve in your next litter and if you’re focusing anywhere outside of Facebook & IG to build your brand.
