Earlier this month, as part of Texidi’s mission of helping young tech recruiters entering the IT world, we launched Recs & Devs podcast.

Teddy Dimitrova during her podcast with Davy Engone

In this series, we sit together with recruiters sharing their experiences: how they ended up in tech sourcing, how they found their way around this field and where they are today.

During these conversations, they share tips & tricks, stories and best practices that can be useful for those starting in this field, but also for those who want to improve, challenge themselves or even those considering tech recruitment as a career path.

These are our 3 takeaways from our chat with Teddy, tech recruiter since 2016 in the Amsterdam start-up scene:

  1. Recruitment is about people: let’s not forget about that. Talk to people, talk to tech profiles, approach them and learn from them. It will help you understand this field better.
  2. To understand developers, you need to understand what they do: don’t just assume you understand or know from a job title or from reading a couple of articles online. Be curious and try to really learn about IT. As Teddy said, “having the same lingo as the developers helped me so much to integrate in that (IT) world.” For Teddy, “Understanding the technological challenges was the key to my success at most of the tech start ups I’ve worked. For example, it helped me so much to sell Bloomon as a tech company and not a flower company.”
  3. “If you’re going to sell a job to a developer, go out there and do your homework first.”. Like any other professional, they like to be approached by other professionals who know what they do and have taken the time to actually check that skills match. It is not just understanding, it is approaching the right candidates after a proper research.
