Textbook Ventures is a student-led organisation dedicated to inspiring students to embrace entrepreneurship and be catalysts of change. We run events, competitions and digital content to encourage students to explore a career in tech, startups and VC. Key events include our Women in Tech panel, Startup Careers Fair, VC Case Challenge and Student Startup Festival.

This year, our key sponsor is Folklore Ventures (formerly Tempus Partners), who are working with us to deliver a range of events such as the Venture Capital Case Challenge.

Our team have had a jam-packed year so far but we need more hands on deck! We’re looking to recruit a few ambitious students or recent grads for three roles:

Please note that these are all volunteer roles as we are a student-run not-for-profit. Time commitment for each role is approximately 4–5 hours per week.

📱Social Media Manager

TBV is looking to expand our digital reach across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Medium. We have also launched a podcast this year and are planning to launch a TikTok account to share snippets of this podcast. Working closely with our head of digital, Elysia, the Social Media Manager will play a crucial role in driving growth across these platforms. They will particularly be responsible for our recently launched Instagram and driving growth and traction.

Your responsibilities:

  • Designing graphics for events, Instagram stories/posts or our weekly newsletter.
  • Scheduling posts to promote events, digital content (blogs, podcast episodes) or programs across our different social media channels.
  • Analysing engagement with posts to make sure we’re engaging the right people with the right content.
  • Passionate about fostering the startup ecosystem. This is perhaps the most important attribute we look for. We want you to be passionate about what you do and passionate about expanding the university tech ecosystem. In particular, we look for individuals who are passionate about inspiring entrepreneurship amongst other students.
  • Organised and timely. Engagement is all about frequency and staying on schedule, so people don’t forget about us! We are looking for someone who can help us maintain consistent quality and growth in our engagement with the student community.
  • Design experience. Be able to use Canva or the Adobe suite to create creative digital content in line with our branding. You can check out our Facebook and Instagram to see our current visual branding.
  • Experience managing social media (preferred). This could be managing your own “foodstagram” or more formal experience in an internship. Someone who is also comfortable making TikToks is a bonus but not essential.
  • Build your design portfolio
  • Receive ongoing mentoring, support and assistance from the rest of the Textbook Ventures team.
  • Meet an extensive network in the Australian venture capital and startup space.
  • Attend various workshops and events, related to venture capital and entrepreneurship.

✍️Blog Writer

TBV is looking to increase the frequency of our blog posts on Medium by hiring a dedicated blog article writer. We focus on interviewing people in the startup space (such as student interns or recent graduates) to share their insights with our broader student community. You can read our previous blog posts here.

Your responsibilities:

  • Interviewing people in the startup/VC space (over Zoom or in-person) regarding their experience and advice for students.
  • Writing up the answers from these interviews in a Medium blog.
  • Writing up interviews recorded by other members of the TBV team.
  • Analysing engagement with blogs to understand what content is the most popular.
  • Passionate about fostering the startup ecosystem. This is perhaps the most important attribute we look for. We want you to be passionate about what you do and passionate about expanding the university tech ecosystem. In particular, we look for individuals who are passionate about inspiring entrepreneurship amongst other students.
  • Organised and timely. Engagement is all about frequency and staying on schedule, so people don’t forget about us! We are planning to increase the cadence of our blog posts to 1 per week.
  • Written communication skills. You ideally have experience writing articles, whether this be for your own personal blog, student society or through an internship.
  • An interview for a blog article is a great way to chat with an extensive network in the Australian venture capital and startup space.
  • Your chance to develop a public body of writing.
  • Receive ongoing mentoring, support and assistance from the rest of the Textbook Ventures team.
  • Attend various workshops and events, related to venture capital and entrepreneurship.

🏘 Community Manager

TBV is looking to expand its Community network and engage with students across professional platforms such as LinkedIn. TBV is looking to explore a new way of engaging with students across social media platforms who are interested in the tech, start-up and VC industries.

Your responsibilities:

  • Working with head of community, Nayonika, to launch the new community.
  • Creating content to share in the community group- e.g. article roundups, career tips, job postings.
  • Thinking of new ways to engage with community- e.g. coffee catchups, AMAs, polls.
  • Moderating posts and creating organic engagement.
  • Getting feedback from community members to understand what students are looking for.
  • Passionate about fostering the startup ecosystem. This is perhaps the most important attribute we look for. We want you to be passionate about what you do and passionate about expanding the university tech ecosystem. In particular, we look for individuals who are passionate about inspiring entrepreneurship amongst other students.
  • Organised and timely. Engagement is all about frequency and staying on schedule, so people don’t forget about us!
  • Creative and Adaptable. Growing a community is all about thinking outside the box and finding new ways to create and deliver value to our audience.
  • Experience growing an online community (preferred, not required). For example, an Instagram food blog, a Facebook group for dog lovers or a YouTube channel offering career advice.
  • Hands-on experience growing an online community.
  • Receive ongoing mentoring, support and assistance from the rest of the Textbook Ventures team and external mentors.
  • Attend various workshops and events, related to venture capital and entrepreneurship to deepen your knowledge and insights.
  • Broaden your connections in the entrepreneurial and startup space in Sydney while developing hands-on skills.
