We are very excited to announce that the Tezos Foundation has approved our funding proposal to develop TezEdge, a new Tezos node that will be written in the Rust programming language.

First of all, we would like to thank the Tezos Foundation, Nomadic Labs, TQ Tezos and everyone who supported us, including members of the Tezos subreddit, our followers on Twitter and all the other people from the wider Tezos community who continue to motivate us.

The TezEdge node will be developed in cooperation with Nomadic Labs and the wider Tezos community. We will work closely with the Tezos community, therefore we will post monthly updates on our progress on our Medium, Twitter and the Tezos subreddit. In addition to progress updates, we will publish reports from the conferences and events we will attend, as well as occasional articles that explain certain concepts and issues relating to our project.

Increasing the diversity of nodes across a range of different programming languages & operating systems is always beneficial for the ecosystem as a whole. It helps verify the protocol and creates an environment in which bugs and logical oversights are detected sooner than they can affect the system.

We’re now committed to developing and implementing a secure, trustworthy, and open-source Tezos node in Rust. We aim to support mobile devices and blockchain explorer in low memory/slow CPU environments. The node will be able to run and process the latest blocks, receive and send all types of operations, blocks, and proposals from the P2P layer. We are also preparing to launch tooling for real-time logs assessment for devs and security researchers, offering better visibility into the inner workings of the Tezos protocol.

Subscribe to our Medium or check for updates on our Twitter and the Tezos subreddit to read more about our development of a Tezos node in Rust. You can also help shape the Tezos Rust node by filling out the survey.
