Tezos at Genesis DevCon’19: India’s Biggest Blockchain Developer Conference

Genesis Devcon’19 A blockchain developer conference hosted by IBC Media was held from 24th -25th November 2019 at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Benevolent responses and active participation were received from blockchain researchers, developers, professors, and students who made this event a grand success.

The Tezos India foundation was one of the platinum sponsors, the Tezos stall attracted a lot of people who have been very eager on learning more about Tezos.

23rd November (Welcome party)

On the evening of 23rd, a Tezos themed welcome party was hosted. It gave everyone a great opportunity to connect and network with everyone in the Indian blockchain ecosystem. There were Tezos QR codes placed on tables which led people to the Tezos wiki to learn about Tezos.

24th November (Day 1):

On the first day of the conference, Tezos India attracted most of the technocrats and explained to them the unique quality and features of Tezos. Participants who joined the Tezos India community were awarded with goodies (T-shirt and Coffee mug).

In the above picture Caleb Kow (President, Tezos south-east Asia), who was one of the speakers at the conference, is explaining about Tezos and what it means for India. All the attendees got greater insights about the Tezos ecosystem around the world and how they further contribute to it.

After Party:

We have heard amazing Tezos pitches on the day-1 after party. We gave five early-stage startups the opportunity to pitch in front of almost 100 people. From them, Soorya Nath won, who is working on innovation in tax assessments and complaints by creating a triple entry accounting system using blockchain.

25th November (Day 2):

On the second day, we organized a workshop on how to create and deploy a smart contract on Tezos. This workshop was conducted by Om and Jignesh (Developer on Tezos). Around 25 people attended this workshop which taught them how to create a smart contract on Tezos using SmartPy and ConseilJS.

Speech by Om and Bernd

At the end of the conference Om and Bernd explained the main goals of the Tezos India Foundation. The goals include creating a robust developer, baker and research community out of India and supporting projects, startups that are being built on Tezos in India.

More than 850 people participated in the Genesis Devcon conference. 2.62% of the attendees were freelancers, 8.51% nontechnical professionals, 43.37% Technical professionals, and 45.50% were a student.

The event did make an impact on educating people on Tezos. The response which we received was very good and helpful for our future goals. We can’t wait to share new research, development and projects coming out of India for Tezos!
