Celebrating Top Writer Tag on My Favorite Topic
All the roads lead to Rome — only when we follow our hearts
“Life is a journey, and if you fall in love with the journey, you will be in love forever.” — Peter Hagerty
When I pour out my thoughts into words, I feel a sense of belonging. I have submitted a dedication to writing; writing in return promised me a clear way forward — where there’d be no confusion, fear, or remorse.
What more could one ask for?
I’ve been writing on Medium since late April 2021. Before that, I started a designing blog, but the objective tone and algorithms I had to follow out there sucked all the joy out of my writing life.
For that matter, breaking free of algorithms (and writing rules) is one of my favorite things.
I’ve had experience as an SEO analyst, but I never used any of these techniques in my writing.
At this point in my writing life, I want to hone my craft — without considering the outcome — without promoting my work.
Medium encourages writers to write personal narrative stories — while I usually love to write essays on topics that in some ways have influenced my life. So expecting an outcome while following my heart wasn’t feasible for me.
However, the freedom to write anything, to break SEO rules, and the support from my fellow writers inspired me to write however I wanted.
I followed my definition of success (which was strongly pushed by eluding immediate success) to balance discipline and joy in my writing life.
I was baby-stepping towards creative exploration when yesterday Medium notified me about my top writer tag on the topic of books.
Reading books and disentangling the knots of life with lessons borrowed from books is a part of my daily ritual.
And, getting a top writing tag on my favorite writing topic — when I never expected it — felt like a sweet little surprise.
I believe a writer’s dedication to his creative journey has nothing to do with success and failure.
Self-reflection in writing is enough to enhance overall quality of life, and so writing is a win-win game.
The tag, however, reminded me of how far I’ve come — of how Universe conspired to help me with beginner’s luck — with the courage to put forth my work regardless of outcomes — and above all — with kind writers — who inspired and supported my writings in this journey.
I, as a writer, have a long way to go and a sweet little tag does not guarantee anything, but I believe Universe in this surprise reminded me to follow my heart in writing— to write myself out the way I want to — to love and honor my definition of success because,
“There is no love which does not become help.” — Paul Tillich
When we follow our hearts, all the roads before us — somehow merge into a single road — and lead us to our destination.
“Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.”― Rumi
I’m writing this especially to thank my fellow writers who always encouraged me with their generous comments.
My introverted nature didn’t allow me to tag all of *you*. But, please consider yourself tagged.
I’m grateful to all of you!
Thank you, Trista, for always being there to support and encourage me. I appreciate you will all my heart for your endless support and everything you’ve done for me.
