Here are a few of our top tips that will have you sending ThankViews like a pro from day one!

PERSONALIZE IT

Whenever possible, personalize the video. You can do this in a few ways:
Mention the recipient by name. If you are creating videos for a large number of people, try and record the same video for everyone with the same name i.e. if you have 20 people named “Janet” that you’re thanking, thank them all at the same time.
2. Mention the amount they donated. You can also organize your list by this information by using “donation amount” in the NOTES column and then selecting all the people with the same donation amount.

3. Mention their class year, donor society, major or some other personal bit of info. Personalized messages see a 15–20% higher engagement than generic videos.

KEEP IT SHORT, BUT NOT TOO SHORT

The average ThankView message is about 30 to 60 seconds long. You can go for longer, but be sure to focus on why you’re reaching out, who you are and then reference any action you’d like them to take i.e. “join us at our next event” or “take this 2 minute survey”.

CALL TO ACTION

If you’re adding a call to action (in the form of a button), be sure your ask is clear and the copy on the button is actionable. For example, an event invite should read “Click To RSVP For Our Next Event”, not “March Event Information”.

FEATURE STUDENTS & FACULTY & YOU!

People like to know who they’re watching, so introduce yourself and share a little something about yourself.
Film your videos in a place that your recipients will recognize whether that be in a front of an iconic building, at a football game, or in a well known lecture hall. Bring your recipients to where you are!

SEGMENT YOUR LIST

The more specific you can get with your recipient list, the more you can specify why you’re reaching out to them. The more relevant the outreach, the more likely they are to engage with you.

MORE THAN JUST “THANK YOU”

Use ThankView not only for thanking donors but in creating appeals to them. Consider creative ways in which you can do appeals to specific lists of previous donors. Then based on their engagement, target them again with more ThankViews or other types of outreach. Use our platform to your full advantage.

USE THANKVIEW JUST TO SAY “HEY”

ThankView is a powerful tool to thank huge groups of people personally in a short amount of time. But you don’t always need to have some huge reason to contact them. Maybe on the eve of a big football game or a well-known campus holiday, think about shooting a video to alumni simply saying “wish you were here!” or just drop them a line.
