There are a lot of potential issues that can come up at an event. If a song runs long, you may have to skip it or try to edit it down on-the-fly. The performance of your equipment could become spotty for some reason, causing audio skips or dropouts.

You might get feedback in your microphone from another nearby sound source. Whatever goes wrong, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to fix it immediately — and whatever you do fix could just as easily go wrong again.

So what can you do? There are a few best practices you should keep in mind.

Have backup equipment on hand

If possible, never play an event without multiple backups of your primary gear — if one system goes down, you’ll be able to quickly switch over to a backup.

Make sure that you have enough..

sets of extra cables and cords with you so that if something happens to one cable or cord, you can replace it with another right away.

Check your equipment before playing at an event

Make sure everything works properly and get any kinks worked out before they become problems during your performance. That way if something does go wrong during your set, it won’t throw off your entire performance.
