The Under 30: Kevin Coppola

The Under 30 is a series that explores the lives of the young people around us. Learn more about why we’re doing it here.

Kevin Coppola // 29 // San Antonio, Texas // Pediatric Dentist and Soft Rock DJ

A Man in Three Parts

Part I: Youthful Wisdom

When he was just 16, Kevin decided he wanted to become a dentist. This is almost certainly atypical, but it shows you the kind of professional vision he had, even at such a young age.

His father was a dentist, which definitely helped push him down the right path, but it still took a great deal of hard work and determination to bring his dream to fruition. To become a dentist you not only need to take a full load of medical courses, you have to take what Kevin describes as “high-stakes arts and crafts classes”. He worked through it though, and now maintains a career in a field that is routinely ranked at the top of the best job lists you typically see. He’s a very responsible adult indeed.

Part II: Middle-Aged Recreation

One extravagant night during his last year of dental school, while out on the town with his friends, Kevin spent over $100 on TouchTunes. Bewildered by his own lack of self-control, but impressed with his own commitment to the music…man, he decided to embark on a journey that would make him a world-renowned (read as, known in San Antonio) soft rock DJ.

Empowered by the scene and embraced by venues as a result of his unique shtick (young dentist/soft rock DJ/funniest guy in Texas), he began hosting a weekly event. This has grown into a considerable business doing pool parties, dinners, and even office holiday parties. He’s a dad, but he’s a fun dad.

Part III: Owner of a Cool Dog
