Remodeling is Finished, Sort Of
Mr. Grumpy gets his house back, more or less.
Any kind of remodeling in your main abode is a pain in the asterisk. Having to move out for a month is a pain in the asterisk. Dealing with the contractors on site is a pain in the — well, you get the idea. My asterisk can take no more. I was grumpy to start with and things just went downhill.
Phone calls from the contractor at 2:45 PM when they stop work at 3 PM can get a little, shall we say, “interesting.”
“Yeah, just needed to know if you really wanted that sink where it shows on the drawings?” The contractor makes it sound like it’s your fault they don’t know the answer to this question. “Kind of need to know or there may be change orders.”
Do they mean the sink that you spent six weeks debating about where to put, three weeks of arguing with the wife over what color it should be? And we were told it was installed yesterday? Do they mean that sink? You slowly count to three. “Yeah, I would like it where it shows on the drawings.”
“Ok, no problem.” The phone goes eerily quiet.
Now not sure if the contractor just feels like he needs to call every day or did they really want to move that sink? These types of questions are sometimes just left unanswered. Sometimes you just can’t get an…
