Likwid Spaces: Green initiative. (July 2018)
The month of July saw some passionate locals and expats meeting up on a Saturday morning, attempting to clean up the polluted roads in Slave Island, Seema Malaka, Malay Cricket Club and around the Sri Lanka Air Force offices. 9 teams were allocated to 9 areas which was coordinated by No Kunu, Likuid Spaces — Mindful Volunteers, World Link Travels and John Keells sustainability collective.

The task was to collect waste and segregate them into the different types. The groups requested to make awareness efforts with shop owners, residences about good practices in waste management practices and to avoid dumping of waste in the first place.
Equipment — Gloves and biodegradable bags were provided at all collection points and it turned out to be a memorable experience for all attendees.
Some of the shops and nearby houses welcomed these efforts and assisted in lending us equipment such as mammoties, rakes, brooms, spades, garden forks and wheel barrows for the day.
Incentive: A reward program was initiated by the organizers for groups and individuals who collected the most effort for the day. Winners also received gifts for snaps taken of loaded bags Some of these included free co-working passes, Arugam Bay flip-flops, free stays at Island Hotels, gift vouchers at Isso Prawn Crazy and Paan-Pass were among the gift packs.
It would be great to see such initives happening all over Colombo and maybe on a monthly basis, getting all citizens to help the community be more aware of the pending issues the country is facing.
A big thank you to Linda (linda@likuid.lk), Amar (mindfultravels.stories@gmail.com), Niranjala (President Task Force on Environment), Ms. Yogarani (SWM Director), SL Navy, Lt. Commander Suranga and Col. Rohan Wettasinghe (UDA Walking Path — SL Army in Charge) for the concern and guidance in setting up this project.
