The following 500 word blurb, is my narrative of how #Twitter is turning out to be — the most important communication platform in the 21st century.

Starting back as 2009 I found myself seeing trending events taking place on Twitter and the curiosity in me signed up to the platform to understand how this short form blogging platform works.

Why Twitter has become the top dog in 2020 for brands and celebrities a like?

Is it the 280 character word count that brings to light, the importance of getting to the point?

1. Validation points and following numbers show that, the account has much value to offer

If you’re a technology enthusiast like me, you end up following some key accounts to that highlight recent and upcoming products that are making news in the tech scene.

https://twitter.com/verge
  • 1 — The VERIFIED icon means it from the only source that manages these Tweets.
  • 2 — The fact that it’s based in New York, encourages the community around them to connect to the brand.
  • 3 — For more in-depth information they can jump on theverge.com
  • 4 — Having been on the platform since 2011, they have been building their 2.6 Mn community over the last 9 years.
  • 5 — Its nice to know the community you follow, follows the Verge brand as well.

2. The high net-worth persona effect

Since you have followed the personalities that mean the most to you, each time THEY like or comment on a post, the instance is highlighted on your feed. So the news cuts through your timeline, and in turn means the most to your feed.

When your favourite cricketer *Kumar Sangakkara supports a certain brand, that shows an instance and is highlight on the timeline.

3. Credible sources pushing out meaningful content

In the 2000s we found ourselves following the news on the telly and signed up to RSS feeds from popular site. 20+ years later, you are able to get snippets of useful information to the brand accounts that you like the most.

4. Its very easy to get community feedback, in a non-confronting way.

Since you have followed the personalities that mean the most to you, each time THEY like or comment on a post, the instance is highlighted on your feed. So the news cuts through your timeline, and in turn means the most to your feed.

5. Brands pushed out relevant pieces of information, based on what trending at the moment

Ie: During the racial events that took place in the US in May of 2020, the community went on to streets to fights for civil rights.

Since most of us are unaware of the historical significance, experts in these fields are able to push out supporting content to inform the public as to why it is happening.

6. Where the average folks, can connect to anyone who is on the account.

As at February 2019, Twitters active follower based is estimated at 126 Mn daily users.

Discounting 10% as parody, test, inactive accounts, the average people can just be a part of the conversation with their heroes who they look up to an aspire to be.

7. The platform is able to cut through the information clutter and solve state problems! *Tags in Elon Musk*

In May 2020, 60 Minutes Australia ran a piece about how , Mike a native billionaire in Australia tagged Elon Musk on a tweet asking for assistance to help build a solar grid during their power outage in 2019.

Musks’ vision for supplying electricity in Southern Australians by building the
world’s largest lithium ion (100 Mega watt) battery, the brain child — was the outcome of that tweet.

Twitter has made these problem solving easy, as it connects to the right people in a very direct way.
