A manifesto is a statement of belief.

Businesses make them to let people know what they’re all about.

It’s how we know that Apple is all about innovation or Kraft is all about comfort food.

If you’re a writer, you’ve got a small business. Probably, it has just one employee — you. And maybe it’s not in the black yet. But it’s your business.

Crafting a manifesto can help you figure out what your business is all about.

A creative manifesto can keep you grounded in your work. When you’re stuck in the bog of the middle part — the part where you’ve started, but you can’t really see the end yet — a manifesto can remind you of why you should keep going.

Maybe your creative pursuit isn’t writing. Maybe you’re an artist or a musician or you bake cupcakes or . . . whatever. The method is the same. Just substitute your thing for ‘writing.’
