Washington Irving was born today, April 3, in 1783.

I am always fascinated by writers and their stories when they’ve endured through generations. Irving’s two most well-known short stories came from a book called The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle.

The list of movie and television adaptations for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow alone spanks a hundred years — from the beginnings of film.

The most recent is a Fox series called Sleepy Hollow that ran for four seasons starting in 2013…
