YOUNG MONEY

Threads, a startup that sells luxury fashion items through messaging apps like WeChat, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, and iMessage, has raised $20 million. The company uses human connection to sell goods to its primarily 35-year-old or younger female customers through the apps rather than an owned-and-operated app or online store, an unusual move for a retail company. Threads plans to use the funds to add more stylists, engineers, and creatives to its existing 90-person team. The company claims customers from 100 countries that spend an average of an impressive $3K per transaction of goods from luxury brand partners like Dior and Fendi.

HBO has ordered a Watchmen series based on the DC graphic novel. It will be written and executive produced by Lost creator/the mastermind of my childhood nightmares Damon Lindelof. The series’ lengthy cast list includes Regina King from Lindelof’s HBO drama The Leftovers, Miami Vice’s Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons (the voice of Scar in The Lion King), and Tim Blake Nelson of O, Brother Where Art Thou? fame, among many others. There’s very little information other than that, besides the logline HBO released: “Set in an alternate history where ‘superheroes’ are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.” I’m so happy for you, nerds.
