Netflix’s new show Sex and Love Around The World goes to six different cities to break open the taboo subject of intimacy.

Christiane Amanpour courageously interviews people from different cultures on their expression of sex and love and how intimacy plays a role in each of their lives.

The series is ripe with thought-provoking perspectives that shed light on the differences between cultures. Four countries in particular; Tokyo, Beirut, Berlin, and Shanghai sparked my interest.

Tokyo

  • Surprising statistic; 40% of men in Tokyo are still virgins.
  • Homosexual love story Manga’s are most popular among women. Tokyo’s cultural tendency to avoidance intimacy makes viewing heterosexual erotica too uncomfortable for its female readers. Male to male Manga erotica creates a safe boundary for the women of Tokyo to experience intimacy and sex.
