Top 3 Reasons Why You Should Live Abroad
And do it at least once in a lifetime.
I was 23 years old when I packed my suitcase and moved to London.
And, honestly? It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Here are the top three reasons why I think everyone should do it at least once in a lifetime:
#1. You Become Independent
Move abroad to a foreign country takes a lot of courage. Courage to leave everything behind and start from the beginning. Your family, your friends, your home.
You will face a lot of challenges.
Different environment, culture, language and it might break you.
But the amazing thing is that it will make you so much more when it builds you back up. You learn how to rely on your gut feelings and think for yourself.
It is not who you are that holds you back. It is who you think you are not.
By stepping out of your comfort zone, you gain priceless experience and become independent. It will be easy for you to adapt to the new situation and be more flexible in your approach.
#2. You Learn To Build Connections
Travel opens up your mind.
” The mind is like a parachute. It works the best when it is open. ” — Dalai Lama
I remember my first days in London. I did not know anyone and was afraid to speak English. As this would not be enough, I could hardly understand anyone talking to me.
I had two options. Lock me in the room to avoid people or go out and talk. Born as an introvert, you could imagine the choice was not easy.
It took me a couple of months, but I get there. Met incredible people from around the world and built lasting relationships. I got fascinated by people from different backgrounds and greatly enjoy networking nowadays.
You will build your network and make new friends around the world.
#3. You Will Never Be The Same
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” — Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Once you live abroad, you will never be the same. The different ways of life and finding yourself in many bizarre situations will completely change you. These are the times when you will learn who you are and what you are capable of.
You will find out that most limits are only in your head and things you are most scared of might never happen. The risk to step out of your comfort zone is huge, but so is the regret.
We have all different paths, so take a chance because you will never know how absolutely perfect something could turn out to be.
And then set new ones. That is how you grow.medium.com
