He caught something moving in the corner of his eye. Slowly, Kaite pulled himself to his feet, letting the darkness camouflage him as much as possible. Who was this lone figure out in the plains?

A boy. A small boy.

Kaite started to walk toward to the boy, soon breaking out into a run. What was this boy doing in the middle of a battlefield? Kaite called out and the boy’s head snapped in his direction. Kaite had just about reached the boy when he came to an abrupt stop.

Pain blossomed from his midsection, the black blade deep within.
