The holiday season brings warm hearts and joy, but with the warmth and joy comes cold air that can leave your skin dry and chapped. Lotion bars are a great way to have a portable source of hydration for your skin that are natural and easy to make. These lotion bars are homemade, so you know exactly what is going in them without worrying about any harsh chemicals.

Ingredients:

1 cup Coconut Oil and/or 1 cup Shea Butter

½ cup Beeswax (Vegan alternative: Soywax)

Essential oil of choice (lavender, vitamin E, rose, etc.)

Garnish: rose petals, lavender, cocoa powder etc.

Supplies:

Pot to melt oil

Utensil to stir oil

Measuring cup

Silicone Molds

Plastic bag or container to place lotion bars in

Procedure:

1. Set stove to medium-low heat.

2. Once pot is heated, melt the solid coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in the pot for about 5 minutes, or until all the oil is completely melted.

3. Remove pot from heat and add a couple drops of essential oil, depending on how strong the oil is you will only need 3–4 drops.

4. Pour the melted oil into silicone molds. Be careful of the hot oil!

5. Wait until the liquid and garnish completely cool and solidify for about half an hour, or set the bars in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

6. Once lotion bars are completely solidified, remove them from their silicone molds.

7. Use the bars by warming them up between the palms of your hands and applying the melted solution to the areas of the skin that need hydration.
