Good day! Have you ever seen full lyrics that have grammatical errors? Well, for my topic we will find some for you. :)

Lady Gaga: Bad Romance

The lyric goes “You and me could write a bad romance.” This lyric is grammatically wrong because of the phrase “you and me”. Saying that is not right because in that sentence, “you” and “me” are used as subjects. Me is not a subject pronoun. So, it should be replaced by “I” which is a subject pronoun. The grammatically correct lyric is “You and I could write a bad romance.”

Beyonce: If I Were A Boy

The lyric goes “ If I were a boy.” This is wrong because of “were.” Saying “were” is not right because we only use “were” for plural subjects. So, for this lyric, we should use “was”. The correct lyric is “If I was a boy”.

Justin Bieber: Love Yourself

The lyric goes “ My mama don't like you, but she likes everyone.” This lyric is wrong because “doesn’t like” should be used instead of “don’t like” because you use “don’t like” for plural subjects. An example would be, “We don’t do that here.” “Doesn’t like” is used for singular subjects, and “mama” in the lyrics is a singular subject. So, the correct lyric is: “ My mama doesn’t like you, but she likes everyone.”

Bruno Mars: When I Was Your Man The lyric goes “Our song on the radio, but it don’t sound the same.” This lyric is wrong because “it don’t sound the same.” Saying “do not” is not right because this should only be used when the subject is plural. It is a singular pronoun. So, the correct lyric is: “It does not sound the same.”

I heard that a song can be informal or the grammar they apply is not very strict. But admit it, you sometimes find it hard to pause or when to stop because there are no commas and periods. So, you try to find the errors and fix them. And that’s what I’m doing right now.

There is still more in the world of songs, but we’ll end here for now. A song can be your own medicine because it heals you and reminds you that you’re not alone and that the song can jam with you. Whether it may be ‘maoy’, happy, or basically everything. Music is for everyone. Remember that this is only for fun and no hate intended. No hate, just love. ❤
