In his single Over, Drake said, “One thing ‘bout music, when it hits you feel no pain.” Music has a way of hitting you, kidnapping you from reality and taking you somewhere else. Music triggers memories and when you create new memories, you always remember that song that was playing at that time. Every year there is discussion on the best songs or albums of each year. That can be difficult because music hits us differently. A song that came out last year can make you feel something different now as opposed to when it first came out. Instead of listing a solid list of 2017 songs that can move the crowd, including me, let’s talk about the songs of the season that moved fans and moved us at the parties.

ELEMENT | Kendrick Lamar

“They won’t take me out my element, noo, they won’t take me out my element. Kendrick Lamar has been giving out black boy joy, but after HUMBLE, the crowd was turnt and conscious. Element gives out a feeling of going hard, but not without making it look good. “If I gotta go hard in this bitch, imma make it look sexy.” ELEMENT sways the crowd smooth and sprinkles confidence on the fans.

Mask Off | Future

Future’s songs have been coming at us back to back. After March Madness, I didn’t think we’d hear something more crowd trembling. Mask Off turned into a Negro Spiritual for the internet, as well as a hashtag — #MaskOffChallenge. Through this hashtag, artists from around the world remixed his sound with violins, vocals, and acapella.

It’s A Vibe | 2 Chainz ft. Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz, and Jhene Aiko

The best part about this song is that 2 Chainz grouped three singers together like it was nothing. It’s A Vibes sounds like a live R&B cypher. There is no other way to describe the song without saying “It’s A Vibe.” The sound is smooth from beginning to end, and fills up the room like a candle in a dark room.

Childish Gambino | Redbone

Childish Gambino released “Awaken, My Love!” and gave us a full throttle 70’s vibe. The great thing about music is that it never goes out of style, and Redbone proves that. No matter what genre of music you stick to, when this song comes on, you drop everything and sway.

Wild Thoughts | DJ Khaled

Rihanna’s verse turns all the women into sexy sassy figures as soon as she starts singing. “I wanna be ya baby, baby, bae-bah.” DJ Khaled’s mash ups never let us down, but the back and forth between Rihanna and Bryson Tiller calls for a perfect Karaoke duo. The crowd moves differently when this beat drops.

Sza | Drew Barrymore

The ladies have been patiently waiting on Sza’s album. Through her music, she speaks what women think and what we go through. Everything is not just plain old heartbreak, it’s why the heartbeat happened. From sharing a man, to being with your man’s homie is real life. The first line of Drew Barrymore stands out the most: “Why is it so hard to except that the party is over.” Drew Barrymore tells a story about a woman who is upset over an ended relationship which brings low confidence. Every girl has been through this situation. So this track is one all of us can relate to.
