AAMBC Book Review for The Alford Plea by Edwina Louise Dorch
As we learn in the preface, the story is based upon real-life events (the details are provided in the afterword at the end of the book, so be sure to give it a read!) and seeks to explore potential resolutions for the questions these events left unanswered. From the very first paragraph, the book draws the reader in with intense events and the imagery surrounding them. We gain insight into the thoughts and actions of a wide range of characters, from the empath Khadijah to the corrupt Sergeant Sauron to the wrongfully incarcerated Malik, as a string of seemingly-connected murders shatters a family. Set against a backdrop of a broken system and those fighting to change it, this book explores the inherent injustices of society and the moral dilemmas of the human experience through a narrative that will have you on the edge of your seat. We give this one a 5/5.
