It’s no secret that there’s been a consistent disparity in the representation of Black creatives and Black voices in books, TV, and film. While social media has helped bring awareness to this lack of diversity and inclusion in recent years with hashtag campaigns such as #OscarsSoWhite and #WeNeedDiverseBooks, the equality of diverse voices in books and Hollywood remains a long way off.

To that end, it’s been necessary for Black creatives to find their own safe spaces to have their work seen as well as be provided the resources to flourish in these industries.

This mission is one that both AAMBC, Inc. and Black TV and Film Collective have in common, making their partnership at Cre8tiveCon 2022 even more exciting!

AAMBC, Inc. was founded by Tamika Newhouse in 2008 to develop interactive literacy-based programs centered around African American books and those who write them by advocating for literary arts, literacy, and bridging the gap between black writers and opportunities.

Black TV and Film Collective is a development and production hub for Black and brown creators working behind the camera, in front of the camera, and all of the roles in between. Founded in 2015 with a mission of friends helping friends create their projects. Members have created award-winning work that is screened nationally and internationally, on the big screen, TV, and streaming platforms such as Hulu, Mubi, Netflix, and Amazon.

AAMBC’s Cre8tiveCon is an interactive writers conference that brings emerging creatives with educators and skilled professionals in publishing and film who are knowledgeable and skilled in their field. The conference includes hands-on creative clinics, masterclasses, artists’ talks, and a pitch fest for filmmakers and authors.

AAMBC’s partnership with Black TV and Film Collective will take place in three cities, including Los Angeles at Thymele Arts on May 14, 2022, which will include a collaborative talk series, Her Lenz: A Dive into the Woman’s Perspective of Storytelling featuring Black women filmmakers. This series will focus on the influence of Black Culture and the importance of Black voices in film and television.

If you are a Black creative, you don’t want to miss this fantastic experience to expand your community, hone your craft and engage in all of the amazing opportunities that Cre8tiveCon has to offer to #makeyourwork.
