Black is beautiful and so is our talent. In 2017, We killed it in the media. Issa Rae blessed us with Insecure, Jordan Peele shook the table with Get Out, and we were introduced to Tiffany Haddish with Girl’s Trip. Of course, we did not forget about Greenleaf, Queen Sugar, and Black-ish. We dominated the Grammy’s and thanks to Rihanna and her Fenty Beauty, we dominated cosmetics. 2018 is here and we are excited to dominate ONCE AGAIN. Here is a list of black productions to look forward to.

Dave Chappelle: Equanimity

On New Year’s Eve, Dave Chappelle dropped the second half of his Netflix special. Coming back from a 12-year hiatus, it was like he never left. He started 2018 with the jokes, that made people madder. I look at Chappelle as a great storyteller, and during his stand-up he gives us facts in the mist of the jokes. Have you seen it yet?

Grown-ish

Remember Zoey Johnson from Black-ish? Well she has left for college and here we are introduced to Grown-ish. This will show Zoey’s experience at college ad will air on Freeform so it can target a younger demographic.

Proud Mary

We’ve seen Taraji P. Henson play a lot of rolls, but not an assassin. WE ARE READY! She plays Mary, a hit woman. January 12th . . . who has the money for the popcorn?

Black Panther

This is the most blackity black black movie and WE ARE HERE FOR IT! Last month, Marvel gave us a sneak peak into Wakanda, and we are still on the asthma pump. In this Black Panther movie, directed by Ryan Coogler, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to take his rightful place as king after the death of his father. When his enemies scheme to overthrow his throne, T’Challa grabs the squad with Wakanda’s special forces in a fight for his kingdom. The cast features Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker. Basically, eeeerrrbody is going to be in this movie. Black Panther will hit theaters Feb. 16. Shoutout to Black History Month.

Wrinkle in Time

Ava DuVernay came on the scene and we have not found our wigs since then. The film, based on Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 novel of the same name, follows a young girl in her expedition across the universe to locate her missing father and defeat an evil darkness. This movie has another star-studded cast includes Storm Reid, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mindy Kaling, Andre Holland and the queen herself, Oprah Winfrey. A Wrinkle in Time will be coming to theaters March 9.

Of course, there are more things to look forward to, but these are our Top 5 most anticipated.
