Hip-Hop Artist Common’s New Album: My Top 5 List

New album “August Greene” is a collaborative music project by rapper Common, Kareem Riggins, and Robert Glasper. The album will take you back to a Common Sense era mixed with a song tribute to Detroit legend producer J Dilla. The entire album is brilliant with a level of musicianship ranging from jazz improv syncopation that makes you want to join in a solo of your own. The Music is expressive with that Chicago Hip-Hop sound we have grown to love. Common adds floetic thought-provoking lyrics of rhythm and poetry (rap) to give truth. You can only get this album on Amazon Music, which is free for 30 days. The first single “Black Kennedy” is dope and my favorite track on the album is “Optimistic” featuring songstress Brandy. This album is definitely on my March top 5 list.

Now I had to make room on my March top 5 for legend Sade! Goddess singer Sade’s new single “Flower of The Universe” from the movie soundtrack “A Wrinkle in Time” is absolutely beautiful. Powerhouse director Ava DuVernay produced the movie with a $100-million-dollar budget and the film and music are spectacular. She asked Sade to create a new song just for the movie and it’s a perfect fit. The tracks mellow melody will put the world in a melodic trance like we know singer Sade only can.

Nipsey Hussle’s new album “Victory Lap” has rejuvenated the rap game. The album is blazing a trail and his independence, partnerships, and entrepreneurship narrative inspires a new generation of hip-hop. Not only has the West Coast rapper open a new store on Crenshaw in Los Angeles, he has his eyes on film production. He is excited about producing a documentary about Dr. Sebi, who was on trial for curing aids. So in the words of Nipsey Hussle “Pop Clutch, Switch Lanes” and build your empire. The entire album is fire. I don’t have a favorite single on this album because the entire project is solid. It’s West Coast, It’s Enlightening, and its Real Rap!

Mixtapes are valuable and Detroit rapper and social media savvy Kash Doll has used her platform and gained 2.1 million followers. Her single “For Everybody” has 10 million views. Mixtape “Brat Mail” is what her fans been waiting on. “Brat Mail” is available online and all streaming services. She is flying high, and her glow up on Detroit artist Big Sean’s single “So Good” off his new album titled “Double or Nothing” is sexy. I think it’s safe to say Kash Doll is here with plans to stay in the rap game.

Django Jane Video

The talented Janelle Monae is spitting bars on her new single “Django Jane” and the song is impressive! 2018 is the year for Beauty and Brains and she is more than a triple threat. Janelle Monae is a singer, songwriter, producer, model, actress, and CEO. Let me not forget to mention she is signed to her own record label Wonderland Records? Ijs, she just might be an Icon!

March has been a good time for new music. Be sure to add these hot new songs and albums to your playlist. Check me out next month for my April Top 5. Peace
