Lakeith Stanfield has been doing an amazing job with his versatile acting roles. From being the in the sunken place in Get Out, his new movie Sorry To Bother You, and being critically beloved in his role with television series, Atlanta. But how do you feel about Lakeith and Shakespeare?

A fun spin on English Literature

Do you remember when it was time to learn about english literature in school? Hamlet and MacBeth were stories we studied, but no one will ever forget the story of Romeo and Juliet. This story was tragic and suspenseful, but learning about it was boring. There have been plenty of remakes of Shakespeare’s tale of the tragic love story, but none of them have trash talk about Romeo and Juliet from the point of view of Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt.

With the long conversation and debate about the connection between Shakespeare and Hip-Hop, Legendary will be taking the Prince of Cats, (which was originally a novel written by Ron Wimberly and published by Vertigo four years ago) and transforming it into a film. “Wimberly reframes the familial conflict between the Capulets and Montagues as a sort of gang war, fueled by undercurrents of personal conflict that are mostly missing from nearly every traditional staging of Romeo And Juliet, the nuance lost under unfamiliar, dense language,” AV/AUX says.

But don’t you worry, Prince of Cats will keep it’s ‘80’s New York, Hip Hop spin. Prince of Cats will follow the original and villainous story of Tybalt and his gang. “In this telling of the story, underground sword dueling with the Montagues blossoms alongside a vibrant music scene,” AV/AUX says. Can you picture this war mixed with afros and disco? Thinking about ‘80’s based content like The Get Down makes me excited for what is to come.
