It’s true that some of the best things in life are free, and it’s especially true in the case of vast educational and informative resources available online to accountants. There are perhaps more than thousands of free email newsletters that can help you remain at the top of your game irrespective of whether you work in the public accounting or industrial domain. Learn whatever it is you need to know to help grow your knowledge and awareness in the field.

“Continuous learning is the minimum requirement for success in any field.” — Brian Tracy

I like to spend approximately 30 minutes of my morning reading these free online newsletters, they are a mecca of information which acts as a chain reaction of ideas that explode in my head. Ever since I have started investing my time reading them I have noticed myself being more knowledgeable, buzzing with ideas and simply more aware of new trends in our industry.

There are thousands of publications, journals that have daily, weekly newsletters but I have restricted this article to the best five. I don’t want you to clutter your inbox and end up not reading them at all.

Journal of Accountancy (JofA): The Journal of Accountancy is the leading professional journal in the field, published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants(AICPA). Their newsletter is concise and to the point, without unnecessary distractions it gives you straightforward insight into what is happening in the profession, with the SEC, PCAOB, IRS, in business, and the economy at large. To subscribe to JofA’s free news alerts click here.

Accounting Today: Accounting Today is a leading provider of news related to the accounting and finance field, be it in the tax, bookkeeping or audit domain. Apart from the latest news in the industry it also provides varied informative podcasts that discuss the latest topics and issues around the industry. To register for free newsletter and podcasts click here.

The CPA Journal: Being published for more than 85 years it is known as the “Voice of the profession”. It is an award-winning magazine(2015, 2016 FOLIO magazine awards). The Journal provides analysis, perspective, and debate on the issues that affect the CPA profession. Major topics include accounting and auditing, taxation, personal financial planning, finance, technology, and professional ethics. To subscribe to the free daily newsletter click here.

Rita Keller: Repeatedly named Top 100 most influential people in accounting. Rita Keller is a respected veteran CPA, blogger, and speaker. Her daily blog posts share lessons she’s learned from her work experience on practice management and administration issues. Following a blog which has a more personal story attached is a refreshing change to the three professional blogs above. It keeps the reading diverse and interesting.

Investopedia: Investopedia is a website focusing on investing and financial education and analysis. It is very different from all the above blogs as it focuses more on the finance side rather than accounting. But, being into the accounting space we need to be equally aware of things in the finance sector. To subscribe to the free daily newsletter click here.

There are a lot of great publications and free newsletters being published every day. I have specifically kept the list as precise and as crisp as possible. If you know of some amazing free newsletters or publications you follow regularly that’s not listed above, please share it in the comments below.

Thank you for reading! 😊 If you enjoyed it, test how many times you can hit 👏 in 5 seconds. It’s great cardio for your fingers and will help other people see the story.
