Quanta Magazine — The Future of Quantum Computing
I’m going to experiment with shorter posts that mostly contain relevant links. Part of my goal is to educate on quantum computing, but there are already so many excellent resources that I do not see a need to reinvent the wheel and so am focusing on the subset of topics I am interested in. So I’m going to handle most of the more elementary ideas with link posts like this one.
Quanta Magazine consistently writres high quality popular scientific articles with a focus on math and physics. They’ve recently started a series on quantum computing called The Future of Quantum Computing, and would be a great place to start for anyone looking to understand some of the realistic challenges facing quantum computing. In particular, the first article focuses on error correction, which is the largest challenge facing quantum computers and may be what ultimately ends up preventing us from every achieving large scale quantum computation.
