Dennis Goes to London
“Let’s go” said Dennis, “We’re going to be late,
The train will leave, there’s no time to wait”
So with haste he went, he ran to the station,
The train was still there to Dennis’ elation.
He hopped on the train, the 0 nine fifty,
He was off to London, England’s capital city.
The train was fast, just half an hour,
Out of the town and past the fields with flowers.
They pulled into the station, London St Pancras,
Where to go first? “I know!, Buckingham Palace”
The palace was huge, the biggest house Dennis had seen,
He tried to see the Royal Family, and of course the Queen!
But the only people he saw were the Royal Guards,
They had red and white coats on, and they stared so hard.
Denis tried to make them smile, he tried to break their stare,
He made all the faces of a funny bear!
There was a squishy face, a fat face and one where he stuck out his tongue,
But the guards were not laughing, they were not fun!
So Dennis gave up and left them alone,
His next stop was the Prime Minister’s home!
Off he went to Westminster, full of important women and men,
Also — home to the amazing Big Ben!
He got there in time for Ben to strike one,
It made such a loud noise, DING DONG!
“Oh great” said Dennis, ” It’s time for some lunch”,
So he pulled out his sandwiches and grapes in a bunch.
He sat on bench overlooking the Thames,
To the left and the right, he could see how it bends.
It was central to London, the reason it grew,
It’s been there forever, way before Dennis was born in 2002!
After seeing the Thames, it was late in the day,
Time to go home and catch the train!
He found his seat and he sat down,
The train went passed the field with flowers and back into town,
When he got home, he was a tired brown ted,
So he went upstairs and went straight to bed,
He dreamt all night, of all the things he had seen,
Big Ben, the Thames and house of the Queen!
