Dennis Goes to the Park

Dennis was a normal bear,

He was soft, cuddly and had brown hair,

Two beaded eyes and a sewed on nose,

And a shirt and a waist coat for his clothes,

Yes, Dennis was a normal bear.

But one day Dennis thought to himself,

“Do I have to sit here like a book on a shelf?

I want to go outside and have some fun,

To feel the cold breeze and the heat of the sun”

So on that thought Dennis got to his feet,

And off he went, out the window, down the pipe and onto the street,

Now, Dennis was not a normal bear.

Off he walked down the road and the lane,

And down that street which has no name,

Crossing the road he looked left and then right,

And when he saw it he could not believe his sight,

A park with children and swings,

And a river filled with the most magical things,

Never again would Dennis be a normal bear.

He ran down the grass with a stumble and trip,

Towards the swings and that big pirate ship,

And on it he climbed all the way to the top,

But then he looked down and said, “I’m too high, I want to get off”,

So down he went feeling rather sick,

“I don’t really like that big pirate ship,

Maybe the river will be better for me.

I’ll feed the ducks of which there are three”

Dennis knew he was not a normal bear.

To the river he went and he sat on the bridge,

And out of his pocket came the bread from the fridge,

Then all of a sudden he was under attack,

Every duck came towards him with a peck and a “QUACK!”

Dennis wanted to return to being a normal bear.

He ran away from the ducks and past the big ship,

He ran so fast he did nearly trip!

He ran past the street which has no name,

Up the road and down the lane,

He crossed the road looking left and then right,

And then he saw his beloved window in sight,

He climbed up the pipe and onto the roof,

And through the window with a great big “hoof!”

He sat on the bed and stroked his lovely brown hair,

“I love being just a normal bear”.
