A CubeSat Just Photographed Another CubeSat. Here’s Why That’s a Big Deal.

A CubeSat investigated its twin satellite from 22 meters away in a demonstration of the type of technology that could change satellites forever.

AeroCube-10A (which is only 10 x 10 x 15 cm itself) photographed from 26 meters away.
AeroCube-10, a pair of 1.5U CubeSats, was deployed from a 3U NanoRacks deployer aboard a Cygnus cargo spacecraft in August 2019. The two CubeSats are nicknamed “JimSat” and “DougSat” after retired Aerospace Principal Director Jim Gee, and current Principal Director Doug Holker, respectively.
The ultimate selfie — CubeSats perform proximity operations while in orbit at 17,000 mph.
