Metanoia- Daily Word №4
Meta? Mega? Nausea? Not even close…
Today’s word is metanoia, which has a meaning of ‘spiritual convergence’, but really just means to rethink one’s decisions and change accordingly. This word looks so similar to yesterday’s word eunoia ! (They both relate to the mind)
Looking Deeper
metanoia has roots in Ancient Greek. It originally meant repentance, which is regret or sorrow over a wrong deed. Specifically, it was made up of the term metá which is means ‘after’ plus the term noéō which means ‘to think, to perceive’ .
metanoia is mostly used in spiritual or religious context, but we could take it out and still use it for anything relating to a sudden realisation and change in the positive way.
Using ‘metanoia’ in a Sentence
Replace this word with other words such as realisation or revelation. It can even replace the word change in certain situations. Here is an example:
“I had only listened to jazz for a few minutes before I decided it was my metanoia.”
I know I might not be much, but I hope to bring these words back to our use again. By sharing one word a day, maybe we still have a shot at saving them.
