BASKETBALL CARD COLLECTING

THE GAME HAS CHANGED

Getting back into basketball card collecting has brought back fond memories of Collecting my favorite Stars as a kid. But there was a huge learning curve in returning to the hobby. A lot has changed over the past 25 years!

Cards are much more expensive, there are more inserts/parallels and less base cards than we had growing up and it’s easy to waste a ton of money (like I did) getting back into the hobby. Many purchase expensive cards on ebay (only to end up with fakes) or make many of the other “rookie” mistakes.

The purpose of this site is to educate those who may be new or just returning to the hobby. Learn what common mistakes to avoid, which cards/brands are best to invest in, and which releases are the best to collect each year that hold the most value.

That Michael Jordan Card that we could have bought for $150 as a kid just sold for $350,000.00

Think that’s crazy?

A Zion Williamson Black Prizm Rookie just sold for over $100,000.00.

Dude’s played like 4 games in the NBA.

Still not impressed?

Just last month this Luka Doncic Rookie less than a year after its release, a 2018–19 Panini National Treasures Luka Doncic Rookie Card has sold for $237,777 on eBay.

Luka rookie cards and even some 2nd year cards are regularly going for $10,000.0o and up

Update: March 11,2020:

4 Zion Williamson Rookies have broke the $100,000 mark on ebay. That’s not cards listed for over 100K, those are cards that were sold for over 100K each.

THE PROBLEM WITH EBAY/BUYING BASKETBALL CARDS ONLINE

Many of the cards listed for sale online and especially on ebay are reprints. These are becoming harder to spot as fraudulent sellers have upped their games. Reprints are simply copies of original versions of the card. Many times the cards sold online are copies of the original or just outright fakes (shitty attempts at reprints).

Reprints hold no value (that’s why you see some cards that you’d think would be worth a lot of money selling online for so cheap. Obviously fake cards aren’t worth anything. Originals hold value and obviously rookies, autographed cards, rare inserts, short prints (cards that are numbered on the actual card itself) are worth much more and are only increasing in value.

Everything listed on on our site is Authentic, Rookie, Autographed or both. This also includes rare, limited edition, short-print and low numbered cards (some 1 of 1’s) that can’t be found anywhere else.

So whether you’re here to shop, just looking to read and learn, or you’re considering returning to the hobby, follow our blog and learn which brands are the best investment, which are most likely to increase in value, where to sell them for top dollar and also what common mistakes to avoid.

With a little guidance, you can build a valuable collection or make some money on the side while reliving the nostalgia of basketball card collecting as a kid.
