2013 FLEER MARVEL RETRO PRECIOUS METAL GEMS

Marvel Metal is the easiest insert in the product, falling 3.5:10 packs. Done with etched foil, they’re another reimagined set from Marvel’s past.

However, it’s the Precious Metal Gems versions that get most of the attention today.

Instead of the normal silver backgrounds, PMGs come in three colors: Red (/100), Blue (/50) and Green (/10).

The popularity of Precious Metal Gems goes far beyond this set. Some of the earliest basketball ones from superstars like Michael Jordan have reached six figures. They’re not that high in 2013 Fleer Marvel Retro, but some can still command hundreds or even thousands.

Values on these are more like sports cards in that key heroes and villains command premiums — some significantly. Needless to say, these are easily the most iconic and most valuable modern Marvel cards. With demand rising combined with an extremely low pop count — prices could skyrocket from current levels.

2015 FLEER RETRO MARVEL CHECKLIST DETAILS

The base set has 60 cards. It’s character-centered with artwork showing modern takes. There aren’t any standard parallels but cards do have Printing Plates. More than 40 cards also have autograph versions featuring ink from comic creators. Base Sketch Cards keep the same general layout. Nearly 100 artists created original pieces for these.

In reality, the base set is somewhat of an afterthought in 2015 Fleer Marvel Retro. This is a product driven by its inserts. The checklist is a big one with more than a dozen chase sets. Naturally, some are more common than others. Values also fluctuate greatly from a couple of dollars and into the thousands.

Kicking things off are six insert sets that use a mix of base sets as a springboard for new Marvel trading cards: 1960 Fleer and 1982 Fleer Baseball use designs not previous connected with Marvel. 1960 Fleer summons Casper the Friendly Ghost while the 1982 set stems out of baseball. 1990 Impel Marvel Universe, 1992 Impel X-Men, 1993 SkyBox Marvel Universe and 1994 Flair Marvel are the other classics to get reinvented here. All six of these sets have Printing Plates.

Select cards from the 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994 insert sets also have autograph versions.

HEAVY METAL AND PRECIOUS METAL GEMS

1995 Fleer Marvel Metal‘s Blasters inspire one of the product’s more common insert sets. These 42 cards use etched foil, creating an intricate and modern effect. These cards have the Precious Metal Gems parallels — easily the most valuable modern day marvel trading cards

Available in Red (/100), Blue (/50), Green (/10) and Gold (1/1), these rank as some of the most valuable modern entertainment trading cards. Because of their connection to some of the most coveted sports cards of all-time, prices on these have always been strong. However, in recent years, they’ve soared further with some of best consistently netting five figures.

For example, a PSA 10 2015 Fleer Retro Marvel PMG Blue Hulk sold for over $57,000 in February, 2022 through Goldin auctions. Even Red PMGs of less popular characters are a few hundred dollars now.

Precious Metal Gems are considered some of the top inserts to debut in the late 1990s. They made the jump over to comic trading cards with 2013 Fleer Retro Marvel and were one of the most popular parts of the release.
