Graduating from Swansea University in 2015, I was looking for an opportunity to learn more about the World of big business; I had always wanted to run my own company and had done so whilst at University, but only on a small scale. I was outsourcing student promotions jobs to friends and running small events, making just enough to take myself and friends out for nice meals every now and then. So, when I had finished up at University and made the most of Summer, roadtripping up the West coast of America, I thought it was about time I found myself a job that provided me with the ‘corporate’ learning experience.

I found a job, which came in the form of a graduate marketing role at a B2B marketing agency, specialising in tech, that was a 10 minute drive from my family home in Newbury. I knew how to write a good tweet and I knew what good marketing looked like but in all honesty I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The company had historically been focused on lead-generation through cold-calling but was hitting an exciting point of digital demand-generation marketing. Sat within the pioneering digital marketing team, I was given great exposure which have me the opportunity to mould my own role as a digital insight manager, which meant I got to be involved in a lot of upfront research, ideation, delivering value propositions and also creating and mapping out buyer journeys. I was also lucky enough to be seen as a ‘client-facing type’ which meant I often got to sit across the table from some of the most influential people in the UK (and thus global) tech scene.

I have always been interested in tech and in fact one of my projects had required me to stay up-to-date with the very latest technology news so that I could maintain a large tech companies CTO’s twitter (yes, they actually outsource that!). In doing so, I became very knowledgeable about all the “bleeding-edge” tech that these large companies were going after. I was working on a project and facilitating conversations over social media between startups and C-level execs in global corporates that were looking for the ‘next big thing’. When it came to arranging meetings for them I felt envious that these entrepreneurs, no older than myself, were working on changing the way the world worked in their own little way and the corporate leaders of the world were actually listening. When I saw this, I knew I had to make a change in my own work life. Alacrity was the obvious choice.
