The Alamo is at the heart of downtown San Antonio, and with the holidays approaching that means the Riverwalk, Alamo Plaza, and the Alamo will be beautifully decorated to celebrate the season. If you have never visited the Alamo during the holidays, this is the year to change that.
On November 30th, the City of San Antonio will light the H-E-B Christmas Tree in Alamo Plaza, directly in front of the Church. Those willing to wait a little longer to see the stunning HEB Christmas Tree will rewarded on December 6th, as the Alamo turns on its own holiday lights at the 3rd Annual Alamo Lights and Holiday Movie Night. Visitors can be the first to experience the twinkling lights on the Alamo grounds and enjoy a free holiday movie screening.
Planning a Saturday family-friendly excursion for when the kids are out of school? A Homemade Christmas at the Alamo on December 7th is perfect for the whole family, especially young children. Learn what Christmas was like for families of the Texas Frontier with interactive living history demonstrations, Christmas storytelling, and holiday craft-making for all ages.
While you’re onsite, the Alamo Gift Shop is a great place to find a Christmas gift for the history fan in your life. Gift shop proceeds help fund important preservation and education work at the Alamo, so your gift purchase will help preserve the Shrine of Texas Liberty.
With cooler weather and downtown San Antonio festively decorated, the holidays are one of the best times to visit the Alamo. So whether you’re shopping at River Center Mall, experiencing the twinkling lights on the River Walk, checking out the Christmas Trees in Travis Park or Alamo Plaza, we invite you Remember the Alamo during this special time of the year.
