Soon to celebrate his 79th birthday on May 6, Bob Seger is a legendary rock songwriter/singer/musician who fought his way up to the top. From his Detroit, Michigan roots to his local popularity in the Sixties, he had his first national single hit in 1968 (“Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”).

Then, after bouncing around with a few bands as well as doing solo work, Seger formed The Silver Bullet Band in 1974. That turned out to be the “silver bullet” Seger needed to eventually move into the rarefied club of rock superstars. The career kickoff for Seger was likely the successful 1976 album, Live Bullet — but it was his Night Moves album and the single of the same name, also released in 1976, that catapulted Seger to national stardom.

The single “Night Moves,” peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, was itself a classic song. Recounting Seger’s own adolescent coupling with a girl as told from an adult perspective, “Night Moves” dripped with nostalgic melancholy in a good way, proving his penchant for poetic storytelling. I’m betting every teenager who heard it could relate to the tale.
