If there’s one thing missing from modern superhero movies, it’s a sense of completeness. You know it’s true, Dear Reader, subconsciously or otherwise. Think about it: What do you do when the credits start rolling? Maybe some of you get up and leave. Maybe some of you dash faster than the Flash to the bathroom. But I’m willing to bet the majority of you do exactly what Marvel and DC have lulled us into doing: Wait for the post-credits scene(s). We’re such sheep about it that they’ve even poked fun at us for our insistent butt-in-seating.

With the way these films tie into larger cinematic universes, post-credits scenes sometimes end up being the biggest talking points of their respective movies. Not that awesome fight. Not that huge character revelation. Not anything that happened during the movie.

Isn’t that weird? It might not seem so since we’re used to it, but think about blockbusters of the past — say… A New Hope. By the end, plenty remains unresolved: Will Luke become a full-fledged Jedi? Will Han and Leia’s love blossom? And what in the name…
