Day 1

As we drive west out of Denver we see forest fire haze clinging to the distant mountains. Streaks of red dirt on the wet windshield.

“What does the word ‘Colorado’ mean?”

Nervous deer graze by the roadside. Fly fishermen in the streams.

Little Maud campground smells of burning wood and cooking hotdogs. Wind whispers in the pinetops.
